I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...

I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Thinkin' of you and hoping that with this new year has come grand repairs and progress in your body.
Hope too that you had a supere holiday season, that you're still resting easy in the arms of love and that you're feeling great.
Stop by and fill me in on your adventures lately when you have time.
(((hugs))), yer fan,
M.
and do start eating better again, dude! (like I should talk... but still, i'm working on it too) It's the liquid part of my diet that's killing me.
Had an appointment w/ my orthopedic surgeon this morning. Unfortunately, I was hoping he would give me the green light to go weight bearing on the bad leg but that is another two weeks away; this is so frustrating. Though I will make a largely 'full' recovery, there is some concern about the amount of muscle that was destroyed and had to be removed from my lower leg. It shouldn't keep me, functionally, from doing things, but might hold me back a little in terms of how well I can do some things. Time will tell.
On the good side, my girlfriend drove down from Boston last night after a concert she went to and surprised me at 3am! I haven't seen her in a while and that so made my weekend (month?). She stuck around and took me to my Dr's appt even. Of course it sucked when she left this afternoon, now I miss her even more...
He's the pride of the neighborhood".
SO GOOD TO READ YOU AGAIN, DAVE.
Enjoy re-installing yourself into the pad, and this place too.
More Frenchy hugs,
: )

I am so very happy too that you have found another fine soul to match yours, which I have no doubt has helped you heaps on your road to recovery. I wish you two the very best.
And hey, bonus on the 25 pounds down. Not the optimal way to go about it but we takes whats we can gets.
I'm really quite lifted to see you shining throughout what can only be one helluvan ordeal. You're an inspiration on a number of levels and I'm sending you more healing frenchy vibes. I know you'll kick ass and before you know it, you'll be back in the fold,
with scar-stories told,
taking in all life has to behold.
If I was there, I'd give ya a formidable bear hug!

What is your cover story for your issue... "I lost most of 'IT' because an alligator bit it off? It use to be much larger, no really..." ;-)
"You think I look bad you should have see that shark when I was done with him!"
SMILE! Things will get better, they always do eventually...
I miss you all and am looking forward to getting back to the site. I had gotten moved from the hospital to a rehab facility and lost my internet. After 1.5 months laying on a hospital bed I'd lost about another 25lbs, but a bit of muscle as well. My left leg is still not weight-bearing, and once my ankle is healed (about 4-5 more weeks), I will be having my knee completely reconstructed surgically, so some more recovery. But after that, back on track!!
I expect to make a full recovery, and will be checking w/ my ortho surgeon on Monday to confirm that. I will, however, be left with some pretty significant scarring (8 surgeries on my left leg removing muscle and other soft tissue, covered with a skin graft), and I have been having some real difficulty emotionally with that - right now it looks like I was attacked by a shark :) I'm also having a tough time reconciling with losing this summer and the time I should have been spending on my relatively new relationship (that's the silver lining - I'm dating an absolutely amazing, gorgeous, smart, thoughtful woman), and doing those things we all plan for the summer. But each day brings improvement.
Thanks again, it means a lot to hear that people are thinking of me. My mojo is improving!
I don't know if you're still checking this site much anymore, but on the off chance you do pop in sometimes, know that you're in my thoughts.
I hope your recovery is taking giant steps and that your mojo is in fine form.
You're missed around here yaknow.
Healing hugs,
Minu
Thinkin' and vibing about you lots and I hope that you're feeling better by the day.
Hoping too that you're surrounded by caring souls and at least managing to enjoy a good sponge-bath 'er two. ; )
Heal up well, mon ami!
HUGS,
M.
I actually don't know Boston well enough to make a good reccomendation. I live here, but amazingly I know nothing about the city, lol. Sorry.
But on another note, it is good to see you back on here. Good luck with the journey you have in front of you.
May you get well soon! Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Rest and regain your strength. I know you'll pull through like the cheerful warrior that you are!!
Dave suffered some significant injuries, but he is receiving medical care and is working through the situation, trying to remain positive. He does not have internet access from his hospital bed, but we're working on that.
I asked him if it would be OK for me to post a little update on his where abouts and condition, and he said go for it.
If you would like to leave some words of encouragement here for Dave, I will occasionally print out your responses and bring them to him in the hospital until we can get him some wi-fi access. He has a long recovery ahead of him, but he's keeping his sense of humor, and really wants to get back on his feet and back on the road to a happy and healthy life.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in the weeks and months to come.
Thanks!
Yes, I think part of it is inertia -- I keep finding dumb reasons to put it off. This is where it helps to have a gym buddy to kick your butt into gear!
What's your diet look like, BTW? I'm staying on the oatmeal-for-breakfast, Saladworks 3 or 4 times a week diet and have maintained my body fat while losing 9 lbs, which is not too bad considering I only run 5k/3miles once or twice a week so far. I've dropped 400 kCal daily by stopping my 4-scoop-a-day soy protein powder supplementation, which may have something to do with it.
I think I'm going to crack down on the diet again for a few weeks and see what I can do there. Part of the issue is affording the healthy foods, but I'll work on that.
What's your goal weight by the way?
I'm on track, and looking forward to seeing those numbers move down real soon.
Last one to 225lbs is a rotten egg!!!
