Many of you "know" Dave as a traineo regular. A few of us actually know Dave in the real world too. You may have noticed he has not graced the pages of this site in about a week or so. That's because he had an unfortunate automobile accident about a week ago.
Dave suffered some significant injuries, but he is receiving medical care and is working through the situation, trying to remain positive. He does not have internet access from his hospital bed, but we're working on that.
I asked him if it would be OK for me to post a little update on his where abouts and condition, and he said go for it.
If you would like to leave some words of encouragement here for Dave, I will occasionally print out your responses and bring them to him in the hospital until we can get him some wi-fi access. He has a long recovery ahead of him, but he's keeping his sense of humor, and really wants to get back on his feet and back on the road to a happy and healthy life.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in the weeks and months to come.

"What about squats and light dumbell work?"
Yes, I think part of it is inertia -- I keep finding dumb reasons to put it off. This is where it helps to have a gym buddy to kick your butt into gear!
What's your diet look like, BTW? I'm staying on the oatmeal-for-breakfast, Saladworks 3 or 4 times a week diet and have maintained my body fat while losing 9 lbs, which is not too bad considering I only run 5k/3miles once or twice a week so far. I've dropped 400 kCal daily by stopping my 4-scoop-a-day soy protein powder supplementation, which may have something to do with it.

It's upsetting to be up this high again.. diet has been pretty good, though i've been eating a bit more than usual (I'm terribly hungry most of the day), but I'm eating healthy mostly. I'm also working fairly consistently in the gym.
I think I'm going to crack down on the diet again for a few weeks and see what I can do there. Part of the issue is affording the healthy foods, but I'll work on that.

Haha! It just *looks* that way :) I stopped creatine as of Friday and started running Thursday... I'll be taking a step back in lifting as well, as my shoulder injury from January was really bothering me yesterday. So, 2-3 weeks passive rest for my shoulder (no bench, shoulder, or arm work), and stepping up the cardio.
I'm on track, and looking forward to seeing those numbers move down real soon.

haha, got your note about it being 6 days since a weigh in. We have been on a hiking trip in New Hampshire the last week or so. I won't be back home officially til Sunday. I decided not to bring the scale on the trip.

While my diet hasn't been the greatest, it doesn't account for the weight gain. This must be the creatine... I'll keep an eye, start running again and just try to stay under 250... only a few more weeks on the creatine...

The bad weekends are catching up with me? I'm just about ready to toss the running back into the mix... I'm doing that crazy part time job today where I work all day, then work from 8pm to 4am, then work tomorrow at my normal job as though tonight didn't happen, so maybe running waits until the weekend or Thursday?
I'm thinking of starting fresh at week 1 of c25k. I don't expect a stall until week 4.

For some pretty bad eating (mmmm... bacon and cheddar stuffed burgers) and a couple of brewery tours over the weekend, 1lb up isn't so bad! Though prelim weigh-in yesterday afternoon suggested there would be no gain, so I expect that lb to not be resident tomorrow-ish.

bah... losing the same few pounds over and over! Am making great progress in the gym, however, and I do notice a difference... I think it's time to take pics again, do measurements... It would be nice to drop below 240 though.

Keep up the good work. I've been bombarded with sweets lately (friend getting married, too many celebrations, argh), so I think you might be ahead of me this month!

Hey Dave, looks like you are continuing your progress. My time on vacation really set me back a bit, but I'm trying to bit back in the swing of things with my workouts.

argh... just call me tommy smothers...
I think I'm just going to start up w/ creatine again once this running challenge is over. Now that the warmer weather is here I should be getting a decent amount of exercise as I love to be outside, and the fluctuating weight won't bother me as much if I'm taking creatine and primarily lifting...

Dave, a nice flat empty parking lot would be the place to go for learning to roller blade. It's been so long, I don't even know if I can still do it... I really want to get a bike...

I'm working pretty hard; I think maybe I should be losing more weight. I know the scale isn't king, but at my weight I have far enough to go where the scale should still be a good indication of progress.
I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, and in the next couple/few weeks I really expect to drop some poundage.

I lost 3 lbs this morning, yay :)
Might be partly due to dehydration... spent some time in the sun yesterday afternoon and had a few beers, then a couple glasses of wine at dinner.. not too ridiculous, but I'm hesitant to call it a true loss just yet.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
keep kicking ass and there should be nothing to worry about. if you are doing the right things, the right things will happen. try not to focus so much on the scale if you can.

hey dave,
my girlfriend's fingers are a full distal phalange longer than mine, so i relate. :)
your forearm and wrist placement are important when your fingers are tending to touch more strings than you intend. try to keep those two as straight as you can, and come at the fret with the very tip of your finger, just under the nail.
next up is the thumb placement of your fret hand. some argue that it should be placed in the middle of the neck, some say at the top. i think size of hand matters, and as long as the base of your fingers is going out from the strings, then your joints are bent so that the tips return to the string, you're doing ok.
normally i see my students' hands while i'm teaching... but i hope this helps anyway.

Could be, but I do tend to eat a lot less over the weekend as well.... I'll see how it's looking by this weekend/early next week. I suspect I'll be even lower by then...

I wonder if that is your weekend catching up with you... beers / sleep deprivation, etc... keep hitting the weights and treadmill the trend will reverse.

Okay, wtf? I'm doing 3x as much exercise as I was 3 weeks ago and I'm starting to gain... I'm not freaking out, I know it takes time to register on the scale, but I'm a little frustrated.... FWIW, I am eating a few hundred calories more, but that would be a 10 day to 1lb weight gain, so that isn't it. I think my body is just adjusting. I will continue to lift hard and get my running in, and just wait for the results; they're coming :)

okay, after a few beers, shared a third of a cigar... with encouragement. I will not be proud tomorrow, but the rest is sitting outside and I have to say it was a bit nasty. damn me :(

That's an awesome milestone dave! agreed with thebryon on the no smoking thing... i bet you can hack up at least a 1 lb more of smokers phlegm biscuits :)
my whole upper body is sore and I did like half the exercises you and facu worked in.
Really report? This could have a negative impact on the posting user. YesNo
Seems the desire to smoke is directly linked to mood... over the end of last week through most of yesterday, I was feeling great - very happy, excellent mood, listening to music and dancing at my desk. hypomanic some might say... Mood began to switch last night and I'm definitely down, though jittery... I didn't exercise last night, not sure what other triggers might be there. But, I'm having a tough time with the urges today, making it difficult to concentrate and generally uncomfortable, occasionally angry. I internalize all this so it won't cause any issues at work, but it bugs me!
Tonight I am going to the gym, and probably not going out after. If I'm still having a tough time, I'll be going right to bed as I did last night. This is a bit frustrating, probably the mood swing more so than the smoking urges; I miss how happy I was just yesterday (and especially last week). I will be encouraging this to return :)
To be sent to their motivators on Sunday, 27th July

well, i'm swallowing a lot of air, and breathing a lot of water, which isn't how things are supposed to work.
but i think my crawl form is at least fit to break 300 yards, which brings me to biking. i start training on the bike tomorrow, and i need to start running a bit to bring myself back to 5k shape (which isn't that much).

hey dave,
are you still putting off smoking? my big suggestion for you is to sign up for a competitive athletic event, like a 10k or triathlon or something. the fear of showing up for the event and ending up in a collapsed, tarry, phlegmy puddle should serve as tangible inspiration.
anyway, good luck. i always appreciate your posts.
(this comment is mainly in hopes of getting a comment back. self-worth, as i see you've noted also.)

okay... back down a bit... I only had 4 beers last night, so this isn't dehydration. I think my body is just teasing me about breaking the 250's. No worries, next week will be good, and hopefully I'll behave at Easter.
I'm still figuring out how I want to best use my time in the gym, and I think I'm going to try to do 2 full-body workouts per week, and shoot for 3 cardio sessions on top of that. It's not a huge commitment, but it should have me maintaining my LBM, getting a little stronger, and still losing weight. Plus, I won't be getting exhausted and overwhelmed like I was when lifting 4-5X/week and still trying to fit in cardio. It's not really a step back, because I will be working on strict form on squats and BP especially, and doing dips and pull-ups a lot. This will also give me the opportunity to get back into the C25K program.

Dammit! Well, I have no real explanation for this gain... i didn't have a very great dinner last night, but it's funny what a bad dinner is now... My pasta is a couple servings of whole grain pasta with tuna and a little sauce, and the 2 pieces of bread are whole grain with a little olive oil spread. Still WAY more than I should have had, but an interesting comparison to the lb of regular pasta and wonder bread I would have had a year ago.
And before you ask, Cardio - I didn't load on water and crap for the 20lb race weigh-in :)

ooh yer close to breaking through another milestone (unless that's dehydration weightloss from last night). Although if you keep up with the gym and CV work I'm sure you'll break through in a jiffy. stay on target!

Hey Dave... Thanx for the heads up. It just sucks to be lumped together with people that have an agenda to "sell". I am not sure what to make of it at all. I like the site what other groups are active? I joined the Martial arts one...no one posts. Sorry about the previous post, I was just extremely frustrated with the whole dog pile on Isagenix users. I can't stand Multi-Level marketing either, however that is not why I'm useing it. I like the system.

I posted on there reluctantly. It's a flame war and a half on there but I figured it was worth posting. Those marketing scams are such a waste of time. If there was a miracle pill that made us all skinny then I'm sure it would be common knowledge by now. As a marketing major it's kind of sickening the way that such things are advertised.
Thinkin' and vibing about you lots and I hope that you're feeling better by the day.
Hoping too that you're surrounded by caring souls and at least managing to enjoy a good sponge-bath 'er two. ; )
Heal up well, mon ami!
HUGS,
M.

Are you grazing at work?
Maybe it's time to have a pig out day followed by a bunch of lean days to give the ol' metabolism a smack in the face? I dunno.
Assuming there's no unaccounted for calories or water, I don't get it, either...
